Biological rhythms

Biological rythms describe the frequency of a particular behaviour. This may be daily, weekly, monthly, yearly or in time with the moon. We give these flashy names so we can refer to them quickly. These take on the form circa and then a descriptor of thier frequency (how often they repeat). They are described as circa as they are only appoximate, as animals do not have an accurate mechanical clock.

These titles are:

  • circadian - daily
  • circannual - yearly
  • circalunar - moon phase (about monthly)
  • circatidal - tides
  • They look hard, but by breaking them down they become easy to remember

Humans wake up every day, they are:

    circatidal
    circalunar
    circannual
    circadian

Corrals bloom on the full moon:
    circatidal
    circadian
    circannual
    circalunar

Crabs hide as the tide goes out. This is:
    circatidal
    circannual
    circalunar
    circadian

Whales migrate to the tropics each year. This is:
    circalunar
    circannual
    circatidal
    circadian
