Taxis

A taxis is a directional movement response, found in an animal.

This is distinct from a kinesis as a kinesis is non-directional.

Kinesis are important as they allow animals to move towards or away from stimulus and therefore to avoid overheating/predation.

A snail moves away from light. This is:

taxis
hiding
phototaxis
photonasty
